How to Fix Skewed Laser Engraving on CO2 Laser Cutters (DSP & RDWorks Users)

If your DSP or RDWorks CO2 laser cutter is engraving skewed designs along the X-axis, this guide will help you fix the issue.

Problem:

When you engrave a straight line (see Picture 1), but the output appears skewed (see Picture 2), your machine settings may need adjustment.

Picture 2: When engraving (fill/scan), the result skewed.

Solution:

Follow these steps to correct the skewed engraving:

  1. Open RDWorks Software
  2. Go to Vendor Settings
  3. Enter the password: rd8888
  4. Click on Read to check your machine’s current settings
  5. Tick “PWM Rising Edge Valid” (refer to Picture 3)
  6. Click Write to save the settings
Picture 3: Tick the PWM rising edge valid in Vendor Settings.

Additional Troubleshooting:

  • If the issue persists, check your machine’s railing for misalignment.
  • Ensure your motor placement is correct to avoid further engraving errors.
