Ezlaser Malaysia recently completed the delivery, installation and hands-on training of a LaserPecker 4 (LP4) at Elarab Perfume in Melaka.
The machine was selected to help Elarab add premium personalisation services to its perfume products, including customer names, initials, dates, short messages and logos.
With laser engraving, an ordinary perfume bottle can be transformed into a personalised gift for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, corporate events and festive occasions.
Project Overview
Customer: Elarab Perfume
Location: Melaka, Malaysia
Machine: LaserPecker 4
Application: Personalised perfume bottles and gift products
Training Provided: Machine setup, design preparation, focusing, material testing, engraving and basic maintenance
Customer’s Objective
Elarab Perfume wanted to expand its product offering by providing personalised engraving directly on perfume bottles and related packaging.
The main requirements were:
- A compact machine suitable for a retail or workshop environment
- The ability to engrave different perfume bottle materials
- Fast personalisation for individual customer orders
- Simple design preparation for names, logos and messages
- Professional installation and practical operator training
- Local technical and after-sales support
Why LaserPecker 4 Was Selected
The LaserPecker 4 is a compact dual-laser engraving machine equipped with:
- 10W 450 nm blue diode laser
- 2W 1064 nm infrared laser
- Maximum engraving speed of up to 4,000 mm/s
- Support for LaserPecker Design Space on mobile devices and computers
The two laser sources are used separately according to the material being engraved. This allows the LP4 to handle a broader range of products than a single-laser machine. (LaserPecker Support Center)
For Elarab Perfume, the LP4 can support personalisation on items such as:
- Glass perfume bottles
- Coated perfume bottles
- Metal bottle caps
- Selected plastic caps
- Gift boxes
- Leather products
- Tumblers
- Name tags
- Promotional gifts
Material compatibility varies according to the bottle coating, colour and composition. A test engraving should always be completed before processing the final customer product.
How to Engrave a Perfume Bottle with LaserPecker 4
The following workflow can be used as a general guide for engraving perfume bottles with the LP4.
Step 1: Identify the Bottle Material
Before engraving, check which part of the perfume bottle will be personalised.
Common surfaces include:
| Bottle Part | Typical Material | Suggested LP4 Laser |
|---|---|---|
| Glass bottle | Clear, coloured or coated glass | 450 nm blue laser |
| Painted or coated bottle | Coated glass or metal | Test both based on coating |
| Metal cap | Stainless steel, aluminium or coated metal | 1064 nm infrared laser |
| Plastic cap | Different plastic compositions | Test carefully before engraving |
| Gift box | Paper, cardboard, wood or leather | 450 nm blue laser |
Do not assume that every bottle will react in the same way. Bottles from different manufacturers may have different coatings and glass compositions.
Avoid engraving unknown plastics unless the material has been confirmed as laser-safe.
Step 2: Empty or Secure the Perfume Bottle
For training and testing, it is preferable to use:
- An empty sample bottle
- A rejected bottle
- A spare cap
- A test piece with the same surface finish
If the bottle contains perfume, keep the cap closed and ensure there is no leakage around the engraving area.
Perfume is flammable, so the machine must be used in a well-ventilated area and kept away from exposed flames, sparks and excessive heat.
Step 3: Clean the Engraving Area
Clean the surface thoroughly before engraving.
Remove:
- Dust
- Fingerprints
- Oil
- Adhesive residue
- Cosmetic product residue
A clean surface helps produce a more even engraving result. For glass, the official LaserPecker guide recommends cleaning the bottle before positioning it for engraving. (LaserPecker US Official)
Allow the surface to dry completely before starting.
Step 4: Prepare the Design
Open LaserPecker Design Space on a computer or mobile device.
Create or import the required design, such as:
- Customer name
- Initials
- Company logo
- Wedding date
- Anniversary message
- Short quotation
- Decorative pattern
For perfume bottles, simple designs normally produce the most elegant result.
Recommended design practices:
- Use clear and readable fonts
- Avoid extremely thin lines
- Keep the message short
- Measure the available engraving area
- Convert logos into clean black-and-white artwork
- Use vector files when possible
Before engraving, check the spelling, date and customer name carefully.
Step 5: Position and Stabilise the Bottle
Place the bottle securely beneath the LP4 laser head.
A perfume bottle must not move during engraving. Movement can cause:
- Double lines
- Misalignment
- Blurred text
- Uneven engraving
Flat perfume bottles can normally be supported using a jig, fixture or stable platform.
For repeated orders, Ezlaser recommends producing a simple positioning jig. The jig helps each bottle remain in the same location, improving production speed and consistency.
For round or cylindrical bottles, a compatible rotary accessory may be required. LaserPecker also provides workflows for engraving curved glass products with the LP4. (LaserPecker Support Center)
Step 6: Set the Correct Focus
Correct focusing is important for sharp and consistent engraving.
For the LP4, LaserPecker recommends approximately 150 mm between the laser head and the material surface. The user can also adjust the height until the two red positioning dots overlap. (LaserPecker Support Center)
Focus on the actual surface being engraved, not the table underneath the bottle.
For bottles with curved surfaces, position the main engraving area as level as possible.
Step 7: Preview the Engraving Area
Activate the Preview function in LaserPecker Design Space.
Check that:
- The design is centred
- The text is straight
- The engraving is not too close to the bottle edge
- The design does not overlap an existing label
- The logo fits within the flattest part of the bottle
- The preview remains fully on the intended surface
Adjust the size, rotation and position before starting the engraving.
Never rely only on the software screen. Always inspect the physical preview on the bottle.
Step 8: Perform a Material Test
Before engraving the actual customer bottle, perform a small test on a sample with the same surface.
Test:
- Laser source
- Power
- Depth
- Resolution
- Number of passes
- Design size
- Focus distance
LaserPecker states that recommended parameters are reference points and should be adjusted according to differences in material, thickness and the desired effect. (LaserPecker Support Center)
A material test helps prevent:
- Cracked glass
- Weak or invisible markings
- Excessive chipping
- Burnt coatings
- Melted plastic
- Damage to expensive perfume bottles
Suggested Starting Setting for Glass
LaserPecker’s official glass engraving guide provides the following LP4 reference setting:
- Laser: 10W 450 nm blue laser
- Resolution: 1K
- Power: 100%
- Depth: 30%
- Passes: 1
This should only be treated as a starting point. Settings must be adjusted according to the type, thickness, colour and coating of the bottle. (LaserPecker Support Center)
For valuable or premium bottles, begin with a less aggressive test and gradually increase the engraving strength.
Step 9: Start the Engraving
Before pressing start, confirm that:
- The bottle is stable
- The correct laser source is selected
- The design preview is correct
- The machine is correctly focused
- Ventilation is operating
- The engraving area is clear
- The operator is wearing suitable laser protection
Start the engraving and monitor the complete process.
Do not leave an operating laser engraving machine unattended.
Stop the machine immediately if:
- The bottle moves
- The glass begins cracking
- The coating catches fire
- Excessive smoke is produced
- The engraving position is incorrect
Step 10: Clean and Inspect the Finished Bottle
After engraving, allow the bottle to cool before handling it.
Clean the engraved surface with:
- A soft cloth
- Glass cleaner
- A small amount of isopropyl alcohol, when suitable for the surface
LaserPecker recommends cleaning residue from glass after engraving, with rubbing alcohol being suitable for many glass surfaces. (LaserPecker US Official)
Inspect the result for:
- Readability
- Engraving contrast
- Correct alignment
- Consistent depth
- Surface damage
- Spelling accuracy
Do not use harsh chemicals on painted, printed or coated perfume bottles without first testing them.
Tips for Better Perfume Bottle Engraving
Use a Positioning Jig
A custom jig keeps every bottle in the same position and is especially useful for bulk orders.
Keep Designs Simple
Names, initials and short messages normally look more premium than overly detailed artwork.
Test Each Bottle Model
Even bottles that look similar may use different glass, paint or coating.
Engrave the Flattest Area
The flatter the engraving area, the more consistent the focus and marking quality.
Save Successful Settings
Create a parameter record for each bottle model, including:
- Bottle name
- Material
- Laser source
- Power
- Depth
- Resolution
- Passes
- Focus height
- Design size
This makes repeat orders faster and more consistent.
